Sometimes I hate people

I wrote a post that I just couldn't publish, because I need my job, even if it is low paying and unappreciated.

A parent is attempting to ban a book.

She did not like the teacher's offer of an alternate assignment for her son, and she further was frustrated when the principal backed the teacher. She's taken the matter to the Superintendent, and will not be happy until this book is denied to students.

It is not "disturbing" or "graphic," as she would have others believe. But it offends her.

There is so much more - so much more merda - but I just can't put it out there in Internet Land.

But there are days when really, truly, I hate people.

I'm so sorry! I am, of course, desperate to know what book. On the radio this morning was a school who now requires parent permission (slip? note?) to check out I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. Yes, there's graphic material -- and any parent who thinks that middle school is too early to have any sort of talk about respecting your body, and the kids of people that are out there in the world...well, it's not too early. It's delicate, but not too early.

Anyway. I understand. And you should feel free to go around hating people for a while.

There are people out there whose love is more powerful.

"kinds" of people. Sheesh.

Come on, just take the alternate assignment. That's why it is there, so you can teach your child whatever you believe in your own home.

You're not teaching middle school, you are teaching high school.

There will always be someone irrational out there. Just be happy that you live in a country where freedom is still considered a valid human right - that you can at least express yourself freely and also get support from like minded people.

I bet that parent let her kid read Twilight.

Hope this gets resolved quietly and quickly...and I too am dying to know what book.
